    Monday Weather Focus

What an action packed week weather wise. Alot to talk about this morning. Lets start off with what is currently happening across the Middle Tennessee Valley. Light rain is spread across the area this morning with chilly temperatures in the mid to upper 30’s. A little bit of sleet is still possible this morning up on the Cumberland Plateau, but all of that will be all rain shortly as temperatures continue to rise. Things clear out later today before our next system makes a run at the area late late tonight into Tuesday. One of the main concerns with this weather system will be the threat for locally heavy rainfall across southern middle Tennessee where as much as three inches of rain could fall. This could lead to some minor flooding for those area’s. Will monitor today to see if OHX or MEG issues FFW. Another threat that will lie just to our south is severe weather including a chance for tornadoes. If enough instability gets shoved north into the southern portions of the state, then we could see an increased threat for severe weather. Will watch the latest model runs today to see if those trends occur. None the less, expect thunder with this system. Things become very windy on Wednesday in the wake of this rather strong low pressure system. Wednesday night will bring the arrival of some very cold air once again with lows dipping down into the twenties. With this arctic air in place, a low pressure system will develop down south towards the gulf once again. This low should spread moisture into the Middle Tennessee area, especially southern middle Tennessee, by friday. Looking at the latest models this morning, temperature profiles look to support a rn/sn mix on friday with a transition to all sn sometime Friday evening into the overnight period. This system has the potential to put down some light accumulations for central and southern middle Tennessee. Will not speculate currently on potential totals but will continue to monitor over the next several days. Cold arctic air looks to spill into the area again closer to Christmas. Interesting times ahead. Make it a great one and God Bless!

Light rain will continue to push across Middle Tennessee early this morning. Some light sleet could mix in with the rain along the leading edge of the precipitation pushing onto the Cumberland Plateau region this morning. Everything will be rain by 5am this morning with wet roadways instead of icy roadways. More rain later this week as well as some more wintry weather. Forecast details later this morning.

    Sunday Weather Focus

Couple of weather systems to talk about this evening. Will make it brief this evening as I have several things to attend on this chilly Sunday evening. The first system will be a very small event. After midnight tonight a little bit of moisture could work into the mid-state. In the northwestern corner of Middle Tennessee, folks could see a small amount of freezing rain or sleet mix with the rain from time to time. Anything wintry will most certaintly change to all rain by 6am or so Monday morning. I do not expect any travel issues at this time, but it will be something I monitor tomorrow morning. Another system will move into the midstate on Tuesday and bring a good deal of rain to the area through Tuesday night. We will see some strong storms to our south during this time period and will have to make sure none of those strong storms move on up into southern portions of the area along the Alabama border. And finally a system will roll through on Friday that could bring a few more showers to the area which could end as a few flurries as the system pulls out of the area. Make it a great one! God Bless.

    Saturday Weather Focus

Good Saturday morning to all. Hopefully quite a few of you like I got to see some snowfall over night, even if it was just flurries. A winter weather advisory is still in effect for those along the Cumberland Plateau until noon today, where 1-2″ of snow could fall this morning. Though major road issues are not expected, those in the advisory area should be aware of a few slick spots. As this system departs later this morning, cold air will continue to inhabit the Middle Tennessee area. Highs today in most area’s will stay in the 30’s. Lows tonight will be quite chilly down into the 20’s and will post a special forecast map under the forecast tab calling attention to tonights lows. Saturday will be mostly sunny before a small chance of rain moves in for Sunday night into Monday morning. The northwestern area’s of the mid-state will have to be monitored for some potentially wintry precipitation should models trend slightly colder for this time period. This will much be the case for the next several systems. Much shift in track and the northern portions of Middle Tennessee, especially the northwestern corner, could be in store for some icy weather. Will leave forecast as all rain currently but will continue to monitor those threats throughout the upcoming week.

    Special Weather Statement

IT`S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS…

SOME OF THE COLDEST AIR OF THE SEASON THUS FAR IS EXPECTED THIS
WEEKEND… ALONG WITH A CHANCE FOR LIGHT SNOW OVER SOUTHERN AND
EASTERN PARTS OF THE MID STATE.

A COLD AIR MASS…OUT OF WESTERN CANADA…WILL OVERSPREAD THE MID
STATE THIS WEEKEND…AND PRODUCE TEMPERATURES SOME 10 TO 15
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. MEANWHILE…A LOW PRESSURE AREA WILL DEVELOP
ALONG THE GULF COASTAL AREA…AND TRACK EAST NORTHEAST…TO JUST OFF
THE GEORGIA COAST BY EARLY SATURDAY. THESE TWO WEATHER EVENTS WILL
COMBINE TO PRODUCE THE POSSIBILITY FOR LIGHT SNOW OR FLURRIES OVER
EASTERN AND SOUTHERN SECTIONS OF THE MID STATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND
SATURDAY MORNING. SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE
CUMBERLAND PLATEAU…AND UP TO AN INCH ACCUMULATION IS NOT OUT OF
THE QUESTION. HOWEVER…AS IS ALWAYS THE CASE WITH THESE SORTS OF
WEATHER SITUATIONS…SNOW AMOUNTS WILL DEPEND GREATLY ON THE
EVENTUAL TRACK OF THE LOW. A LIGHT DUSTING MAY OCCUR BETWEEN
    NASHVILLE AND THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU.

SATURDAY MORNING LOWS ARE EXPECTED TO BE MAINLY IN THE MIDDLE
20S…SO ANY SNOW THAT FALLS SHOULD STICK…ESPECIALLY ON GRASSY
    AREAS AND ROOFTOPS.

AS CANADIAN HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO HOLD THE MID STATE IN ITS
FRIGID GRIP SATURDAY NIGHT…EXPECT LOW TEMPERATURES BY SUNRISE
SUNDAY MORNING TO BOTTOM OUT IN THE TEENS TO AROUND 20 ALONG THE
CUMBERLAND PLATEAU…AND IN THE LOWER 20S ELSEWHERE.

IF THE LOW TRACKS FURTHER SOUTH THAN EXPECTED…AND THE SNOW
DOES NOT FALL ON THE MID STATE THIS WEEKEND…IT SHOULD STILL BE
COLD ENOUGH TO KEEP MANY FOLKS IN THE CHRISTMAS MOOD.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE SHOULD INCREASE STEADILY OVER THE NEXT TWENTY
FOUR TO THIRTY SIX HOURS…SO IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO MONITOR
FORECAST UPDATES FOR YOUR LOCAL AREA…TO SEE IF CURRENT EXPECTATIONS
    HAVE BEEN REVISED.
